International Conference: Integration of gender equality into local public policies - good examples from the EU
A two-day international conference "Integration of gender equality into local public policies - good examples from the EU" on 26-28 November gathered in Split in Hotel „Park“ around 50 representatives of local authorities, Commissions for gender equality, political parties and civil society organizations that promote women's rights, as well as guests from EU countries, Magali Giovannangeli, Deputy Mayor of Aubagne, France, and Prof.PhD Irena Ateljević, University of Wageningen, The Netherlands.
After welcome speech by Andjelka Viskovic, Deputy Mayor of the City of Split, about gender equality issues spoke Gordana Sobol, president of the Committee for Gender Equality in Goverment RH, MSc Suzana Kunac, B.a.b.e., Zagreb and RH Parliament representative, Vesna Pusic. Magali Giovannangeli and Irena Ateljevic elaborated on experiences in the field of gender equality and women's human rights at the global level. On this occasion, „Dominoes“ and project partner Prof.PhD Anci Leburic from Department of Sociology, University of Split, presented results of sociological research and analysis on gender politics in the City of Split, which were recently realized within the project framework.
On the second day of the conference, parallel workshop sessions, led by Irena Ateljevic, Magali Giovannangeli, Valerija Barada (Department of Sociology, Faculty of Philosophy, Zadar) and Mirjana Kucer ("Dominoes", project manager) covered issues of women in the local community as bearers of sustainable development; tradition, culture and awareness of others, as well as integration of the gender eqaulity principles into public policies – on local and global level.
International Conference "Integration of gender equality into local public policies - good examples from the EU" is a part of the project "Creating new models for improving position of women in society and integration of gender policy into local public policies in the City of Split," which "Dominoes" are realising in 2008/2009 within Phare 06 Program for Croatia, "Enabling active contribution of civil society sector in the pre-accession process of democratization and human rights", financed by the EU.
